Position Overview

The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing the operational, financial, and brand performance of multiple % Arabica cafés across the Greater Toronto Area. This role requires strong specialty coffee expertise, disciplined operational leadership, and the ability to coach teams while driving results.

The Area Manager serves as a brand guardian, ensuring % Arabica’s global standards are executed consistently while supporting growth, marketing initiatives, and new store development under Accencis Group.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Specialty Coffee & Brand Standards
  • Uphold and enforce % Arabica global brand and coffee standards across all locations.
  • Coach Store Managers and Baristas on espresso extraction, calibration, milk texturing, and beverage consistency.
  • Conduct regular quality audits and implement corrective action plans.
  • Ensure café presentation, service flow, and guest experience align with brand expectations.
  1. Operations & Process Excellence
  • Ensure cafés operate in accordance with SOPs, food safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Standardize workflows to improve speed, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Identify operational gaps and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory controls.
  1. Training, Coaching & People Development
  • Lead onboarding and training for Store Managers and key café leaders.
  • Coach Store Managers on leadership, accountability, and performance management.
  • Partner with HR on hiring, retention, and succession planning.
  • Conduct regular store visits focused on coaching and capability building.
  • Develop internal talent pipelines to support future expansion.
  1. Financial Performance & P&L Ownership
  • Own the P&L performance of assigned cafés.
  • Manage and optimize:
    • Labor cost and productivity
    • Cost of goods sold (coffee, milk, food, packaging)
    • Waste, variance, and shrinkage
  • Analyze financial reports and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed targets.
  • Work closely with Finance to align on budgets and forecasts.
  1. Scheduling & Labor Optimization
  • Ensure schedules reflect sales forecasts, traffic patterns, and labor targets.
  • Coach Store Managers on effective labor planning and overtime control.
  • Improve productivity ratios without compromising service quality.
  1. Inventory, Food Cost & Waste Reduction
  • Oversee ordering, storage, and usage of coffee, milk, food, and supplies.
  • Implement systems to reduce waste and control variance, including:
    • Milk usage optimization
    • Coffee calibration discipline
    • Expiry tracking and prep controls
  • Ensure accurate inventory counts and reporting.
  1. Guest Experience & Service Recovery
  • Ensure a consistent, premium guest experience across all locations.
  • Handle escalated guest concerns professionally and in line with brand values.
  • Monitor guest feedback and reviews, and lead service improvement initiatives.
  1. Marketing Activation & Local Execution
  • Partner closely with the Marketing team to execute national and local marketing campaigns.
  • Ensure in-store execution of promotions, launches, visual merchandising, and brand moments.
  • Support local store marketing initiatives while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Provide feedback from the field to improve campaign effectiveness.
  1. Store Maintenance & Asset Care
  • Ensure cafés are well-maintained, clean, and operationally sound at all times.
  • Identify maintenance issues and coordinate timely repairs with vendors and head office.
  • Proactively flag risks related to equipment, layout, or infrastructure.
  • Maintain % Arabica’s premium aesthetic and physical standards.
  1. New Store Openings & Growth Support
  • Support new café openings, including hiring, training, soft openings, and stabilization.
  • Ensure operational readiness prior to opening.
  • Assist with post-opening performance reviews and optimization.
  • Support Accencis Group’s growth initiatives by ensuring new locations meet brand standards from day one.
  1. Reporting & Stakeholder Alignment
  • Provide structured weekly and monthly reports covering sales, labor, food cost, training, and risks.
  • Act as the primary field liaison between café teams and Accencis Group head office.
  • Support implementation of company-wide initiatives, systems, and improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3–5+ years of multi-unit management experience in specialty coffee or premium café concepts.
  • Strong specialty coffee background strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing P&L, labor, and food cost.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and developing managers.
  • Strong operational, financial, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly across the GTA.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
